The 11th annual BIO-Europe Spring will be held at the CCIB Convention Center in the beautiful city of Barcelona and as always, gather biotech, pharma and finance for three days of networking.
As in previous years the event will include workshops, panels, an active exhibition and prescheduled one-to-one meetings. Last year’s events have gathered close to 2 300 executives from biotechnology, pharmaceutical and finance companies from around the world, who has engaged in over 12 000 partnering meetings.
The BioRegion of Catalonia
The BioRegion of Catalonia in Spain has 824 companies, including 241 biotech, 51 pharma, 83 medical technology, 217 suppliers and engineering firms, 133 consulting and professional services, 70 eHealth companies and 29 active investment organizations, according to Biocat Directory December 2016. The region also possesses 41 research centres, 15 university hospitals, 11 universities that offer life science degrees, 2 large scale facilities like the Alba-Cells Synchrotron and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, 7 technology centers and 13 science and technology parks with life science activity. The companies post yearly 7 percent of the GDP of Catalonia and employ more than 42 000 workers, and between 2015 and 2016 the companies in the region attracted more than EUR 151 million in investment.
Catalonia actually ranks second in pharmaceutical companies per capita in Europe and it is the fourth European region in biotech companies per capita and fourth in medtech companies. Barcelona is also the southern gateway to Europe, the center of an emerging economic Eurozone, the Mediterranean capital, a bridge to the Maghreb and a platform for links to Latin America.
