AstraZeneca boosts research with longtime support

AstraZeneca is funding ten research projects at the Science for Life Laboratory.

The projects will begin during the fall of 2013 and are intended to improve the understanding of the molecular mechanisms surrounding tumor disease, heart failure, diabetes, inflammatory diseases, asthma and COPD, CNS diseases and stem cell biology.

The various projects will be led by Håkan Ahlström, Sven-Erik Dahlén, Anna Falk, Thomas Helleday, Tomas Olsson, Hans Persson, Lars Rönnblom, Sven Nelander, Olle Sangfeldt and Juleen Zierath. The scientists work at Karolinska Institutet and Uppsala University and will head these projects, which will also include groups from Stockholm University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology, as well as other Swedish universities.

In 2012 AstraZeneca decided to invest 5-10 million USD per year for 5 years in various research projects together with SciLifeLab.
