For the third consecutive year, Denmark is ranked as number two on the list of the most innovative countries in the European Innovation Scoreboard 2016 (EIS) and once again titled “innovation leader”, together with Sweden, Finland, Germany and the Netherlands.
According to the European Commission, Denmark can be classified as an innovation leader as the country excels at “open, excellent and attractive research systems, linkages and entrepreneurship, and Intellectual assets. In particular in International scientific co-publications and public-private co-publications, the country is performing well above the EU average.”

Director of Invest in Denmark, Dorte Bech Vizard welcomes the result and says: “The scoreboard confirms that Denmark’s unique combination of a well-educated, creative workforce and an exceptional tradition for public-private collaboration boosts innovation. This can serve as an asset to any company, whether it is for R&D activities, a Nordic HQ or advanced production. My hope is that the new EC report will help Denmark attract even more talents and foreign companies.”

The European Innovation Scoreboard 2016 provides a comparative assessment of innovation performance across regions of the European Union, Croatia, Norway and Switzerland.

The most innovative countries perform best on all dimensions: from research and innovation inputs, through business innovation activities up to innovation outputs and economic effects, which reflects a balanced national research and innovation system.
