New agreement tightens up requirements

On September 11, the Swedish government and the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions signed a new agreement regarding the regulation of the funding allocated to clinical research.

ALF, which stands for an agreement between the Swedish state and some county councils on collaboration regarding basic training of physicians, medical research and the development of healthcare. With the new ALF agreement the allocation of resources starting from 2016 is based on the quality of the clinical research that is being conducted. In a first step only bibliometrical criteria will be used but starting from 2019 a more developed model will be used where expert assessments will also be weighed in.

In the new agreement the defintion of university healthcare is defined. The university healthcare will be evaluated based on requirements on quality and the care is to achieve a certain minimum level.
