St Jude Medical to close Uppsala unit

The medtech company is closing its research unit in Uppsala. Approximately 200 posts will be cleared away.

The background of the decision is according to Life Science Sweden is the company’s strategy to centralize the global functions for manufacture and distribution with the aim of saving money to move the R&D unit to be closer to other operations. St Jude Medical has started negotiations with local unions and the employees affected will be offered support during a transition period.

The Uppsala unit is expected to be phased out at the end of 2014.
