Are you ready for BIO-Europe Spring?
NLS asked Pam Putz, Managing Director, EBD Group EU, how to make the most out of a digital visit to BIO-Europe Spring and what we should not miss this year.
Tell me about your decision to arrange BIO-Europe Spring digitally?
“The decision to make BIO-Europe Spring a 100% digital event came from recent renewals of corporate travel restrictions and the temporary suspension of large-scale events by the Kanton of Basel Stadt due to the spiking Omicron variant. After two years of successfully running digital partnering events, I believe we were all ready for in-person engagement and EBD Group was looking forward to welcoming our global life science community in Basel, but it was out of consideration for the health and safety, and the planning efforts of our sponsors, speakers, exhibiting and presenting companies and network of supporters and delegates, that we took this decision.”
“As we did not want to miss on hosting a conference in Basel, Switzerland with its exciting pharma, biotech and academia environment, we have committed to a Basel edition of BIO-Europe Spring in 2023. We are already looking forward to hosting you there next year in person!”
How will the event work when it is digital?
“We have extended our early bird rate for everyone to take advantage of registering for only EUR 1,495 until February 21. The entire event will be accessed in one seamless digital experience on EBD Group’s gold standard partneringONE® platform. One-to-one meetings will be held virtually and expanded to a 24-hr timeframe to accommodate and facilitate meetings with delegates from around the world. Scheduled meetings will take place during the conference, with links to a video conferencing solution being provided. Participants can also get in touch and chat with other attending delegates in a variety of different discussion rooms.”

“Starting when partnering opens on February 21, all registered attendees will have access to the online platform to browse the list of participating companies, delegates and posted assets looking for the next partnering opportunity. Additionally, you will be able to watch the presentation of 100+ innovator companies on the platform to round up your partnering due diligence before sending a meeting request. Representatives from 50+ countries are expected which allows you to find opportunities beyond your usual territories while travel is restricted right now.”
“This on-demand and pre-released strategy allows attendees to discover new innovations and initiate new discussions at their own convenience, leading to more and higher relevance meetings than ever before.”
“Four weeks before the event, on-demand content such as company presentations, sponsor and showcase company materials, and select program sessions will be released. This on-demand and pre-released strategy allows attendees to discover new innovations and initiate new discussions at their own convenience, leading to more and higher relevance meetings than ever before.”
How do you plan to create networking opportunities?
“Participants can engage in a conversation with other attending delegates through topic-driven speed networking sessions, wellness activities such as the BiotechBikers rides, and program-related chats.”
“Live digital sessions allow participants to interact with thought leaders on a wide range of therapeutic and business-development topics in real time.”
“Live digital sessions allow participants to interact with thought leaders on a wide range of therapeutic and business-development topics in real time and we will be doing more of this format for this edition of BIO-Europe Spring.”
Is there a particular session or speaker that you look forward to a little bit extra?
“A highlight of this year’s program is the Opening Keynote with James Sabry, Global Head Pharma Partnering at Roche and Nigel Sheail, Global Head, Mergers and Acquisitions and Business Development and Licensing at Novartis. These two executives have a wealth of experience in biotech business development to share, as well as being engaging and engaged speakers. Their joint session promises to be enjoyable as well as insightful.”
“These two executives have a wealth of experience in biotech business development to share, as well as being engaging and engaged speakers.”
”BIO-Europe Spring has always focused on innovation, especially around fostering young companies and cutting-edge science through supportive ecosystems and networks. One session that will focus on this topic will highlight how regional interactions in Basel drive innovative research and development through the entire industry value chain, from SMEs to Big Pharma.”
Any final advice to make the most out of my digital visit?
“Efficient partnering is a dynamic process that starts early – registering earlier rather than later is the best way to get started. By registering now, you will be ahead of the curve with the opportunity to fill out your partnering profile and be ready to start requesting your priority meetings when partnering opens, on February 21. Our statistics show that more than half of the total meetings have already been agreed upon and scheduled 2 weeks prior to the event. Calendars fill up fast, and the popular pharma companies need time to review the hundreds of meeting requests they receive.”
“Dedicate time to the digital event, the same way you would have attending physically.”
“Furthermore, and maybe most importantly, I would suggest blocking off your calendar and encourage everyone to dedicate time to the digital event, the same way you would have attending physically. Set time aside to navigate and familiarize yourself with our partneringONE platform, especially to those who might have not attended a digital event, yet. Think about it as if you were walking through the conference: maybe you will discover a session around a topic you are interested in, discover an innovative company presentation, or strike up a conversation in a networking session. The opportunities are endless!”
