Researchers from Aalborg University and audiology company Oticon are developing a communications solution for people with hearing impairments.

The development project, App(etite) for life with hearing impairment, focuses on improving hearing rehabilitation by facilitating and easing communication between healthcare professionals, the hearing impaired and their relatives. The goal of the project is to develop an app and an online portal to offer direct information exchange between the hearing impaired and the healthcare professional, e.g. audiologist or otologist, the hearing impaired patient relies on for treatment.

Having an impairment can result in social isolation, cognitive difficulties, anxiety and depression, and early retirement. Direct communication with their audiologist or otologist enables patients to take control of their own treatment, based on their condition and individual needs.
