How to innovate and compete through technology in a sustainable future

We are in the midst of a paradigm shift – a transition toward a technology driven biobased and more sustainable society that is set to redefine how we live, what we produce and how we produce it – and consequently how we do business.

Technology is driving this development and is taking place across industries, professional disciplines and research fields. It is not the technologies on their own, but the convergence of them that will be a gamechanger by accelerating the pace of product development and innovating entire new products and services.

These technologies include life science and biotechnology, AI, quantum technology, advanced manufacturing and materials, advanced semiconductor technology, robot technology and autonomous systems, advanced sensorial technology, and cybersecurity.

From the way we produce food and make medicine to how we construct buildings, move goods, offer services and power our economies – everything is changing. And the companies that understand how to leverage these converging technologies across industries will be the ones that lead.

This course is designed to put you on the right side of that change

The 4-day in-person course at DTU will equip you with a clear understanding of how these technologies interact and empower each other – and how to use them to build a competitive, sustainable and future-fit business.

Importantly, you will also grow as a strategic leader. The course will equip you with tools not only to drive sustainability initiatives – but to embed innovation as a core agenda within your organization. You’ll work alongside peers and experts from across industries to sharpen your thinking and expand your perspective.

Through hands-on learning, masterclasses, panel discussions, excursions and peer collaboration, you will explore how to turn complex challenges into opportunities for growth and innovation.

If your ambition is to shape the future – not just react to it -this course will give you the insight, skills and network to lead the way.

Why this course is for you

If you want to position yourself as a strategic force within your organization, someone who drives both growth and sustainability, this course is for you.

You will deepen your leadership skills while gaining up-to-date insights into the technologies transforming industries. From breakthroughs in biotechnology, AI and machine learning to chemical engineering, biomanufacturing and data analytics, you will explore how these technologies are converging to build a new industrial era – one where sustainable solutions are not just possible, but often more cost-effective and profitable than petrochemical-based alternatives.

Through curated excursions, you will visit early-stage student ventures at DTU Skylab, cutting-edge deep-tech spinouts at DTU Science Park and privately backed life science accelerators. You will experience the entrepreneurial journey firsthand from the lab bench to the market. These live cases will help you envision new products, services and even entirely new business models for your own company.

I usually attend scientific conferences, but this course offered a unique balance between research, entrepreneurship, and industry that I have not experienced before.

Fernanda Lopes, Ph.D, EMBA, AGC Biologics, Early Stage Development Manager

The European Union has identified biosolutions and biotechnology as critical technologies for strengthening Europe’s competitiveness, resilience and security. In this context, sustainability is not just a bonus-it’s a business imperative. This course addresses the European agenda and equips you to lead in that new reality.

About ELPIS

The European Leadership Program on Industrial Science (ELPIS) is developed by an alliance of leading technical universities in Europe, EuroTeQ: DTU, TUM, École Polytechnique, EPFL, TU/e, CTU, Taltech and a leading business school HEC. The European executive Program consists of a series of 4-day courses to choose between as stand-alone or combined on leadership and the 10 critical technologies of the EU. The individual course diplomas can be stacked and the learner can eventually gain a EuroteQ executive certificate.

All the courses address the same interdisciplinary challenges industries are faced with currently when leading industrial science, R&D projects or departments in areas such as AI, quantum technology, biotech, advanced semiconductors, connectivity, sensing technologies, navigation and digital technologies , robotics and autonomous systems, space and propulsion technologies, and energy technologies. Developed specifically with the industrial specialist in mind, with a PhD or some research experience, but is also open to mid-career to high-level business and innovation profiles.
