Study Examines How Cells Store, Burn Fat

Researchers in the department of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Southern Denmark have discovered how cells responsible for storing fat can be converted into cells that burn fat.

Scientists identified a protein that activates specific genes to reprogram the fat cells to burn fat instead of storing it.

The findings are an important step in developing drugs that can spur the body to transform fat into energy instead of storing it. The study was published in Genes & Development.
