Edlunska priset, handed out by the Royal Swedish handed out by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, goes to Erik Johansson.

Johansson is Professor of medical chemistry and biophysics at Umeå University. The motivation for 2014 year’s award is for Johansson’s “development of a groundbreaking biochemistry and fundamental discoveries in eucaryotic DNA replication,” as stated by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

“It feels great! Above all, the prize is a recognition of the importance of our research on what happens in the genetic material during cell division,” commented Johansson in a press release.

The prize will be handed out at a public gathering on September 10 2014. The prize sum is SEK 80,000. Edlundska priset is an award given for research within mathematics, astronomy, physics or chemistry.
