These are the winners of Medtech4Health Innovation Award
Suturion has been named the winner of this year’s Medtech4Health Innovation Award, receiving SEK 100,000 for its surgical innovation SutureTOOL. At the same time, Nil Medical was honored with the Patient’s Prize for its invention Nil Medical Vestpack.
The Medtech4Health Innovation Award recognizes companies that have developed and implemented medical technology solutions leading to better patient outcomes and more efficient healthcare. The Patient’s Prize is presented to an innovation delivering the most immediate and tangible benefit to patients.
Both awards were announced during Vårdarenan, held at Münchenbryggeriet in Stockholm on April 14.
Suturion
Suturion’s SutureTOOL is a handheld, mechanically driven suturing device that standardizes closing procedures after abdominal operations. Resembling a hand-powered sewing machine for surgical use, the tool enables surgeons to work faster and with greater precision, reducing complications and ensuring more consistent results.
“The innovation modernizes one of healthcare’s most fundamental procedures,” the jury noted in its citation. “With SutureTOOL, Suturion reduces time in the operating room, lowers the risk of complications, and increases efficiency for healthcare professionals. By enabling faster, safer, and more equitable care, SutureTOOL becomes a tool that truly makes a difference – for both patients and professionals. A modern wrench for healthcare!”
Nil Medical
The Patient’s Prize, along with SEK 10,000 to donate to a patient organization of choice, was awarded to Nil Medical for Nil Medical Vestpack – an ergonomically designed vest that allows children and young people to move freely during infusions and medical treatments, both in hospital settings and at home. The garment encloses and protects tubing, pumps, and fluid systems, improving safety and mobility.
Developed in close collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare professionals, Vestpack supports children’s independence, mobility, and quality of life.
“Nil Medical Vestpack gives children something invaluable: the freedom to move, play, and simply be children,” the jury wrote. “It makes life easier, fosters independence, and brings more smiles to both children and parents. This innovation shows that medical technology can not only save lives, but also make them more joyful.”
