Western Sweden unites to boost life sciences competitiveness
Industry, academic, and public stakeholders will join forces in a new council aimed at accelerating the region’s life science development.
On May 19, the Västra Götaland Region and Business Region Gothenburg gathered key actors to sign a joint declaration of intent and establish the Council for Western Swedish Life Sciences.
Position Western Sweden as a leading European life sciences hub
The council will coordinate efforts across the regional ecosystem to strengthen capacity, innovation, and international competitiveness. The initiative builds on existing regional strategies and aims to position Western Sweden as a leading European life sciences hub while reinforcing Sweden’s overall standing.
“Bringing together key stakeholders around a shared direction is both unique and essential for continued growth in the Gothenburg region and for strengthening Sweden’s competitiveness,” said Patrik Andersson, CEO of Business Region Gothenburg.
Strengthen the competitiveness of the region, Sweden, and Europe
The council will focus on increasing employment, strengthening international competitiveness and EU funding, and expanding the number of clinical trials in the region, it states.
“By working more cohesively, we can bring competitive, life-saving products to market faster and strengthen the competitiveness of the region, Sweden, and Europe,” said Mattias Perjos, CEO of Getinge.
