Elekta names Savander as president, CEO

Radiation oncology firm Elekta said it has named Niklas Savander as its next president and CEO, effective May 1, 2014. Savander succeeds Tomas Puusepp, who will remain with the firm after May 1 as a working member of its board of directors, the company said.

Savander has held senior management positions with Nokia and most recently Hewlett-Packard, where he was a member of the firm’s executive management team in charge of day-to-day operations, Elekta said, adding that his understanding of complex global technology industries will be an asset to the company in its next stage of growth.

Laurent Leksell, Elekta’s founder, former CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors, says: “We are very pleased to have been able to appoint such an experienced and capable executive as Niklas Savander. His deep understanding of complex global technology industries, as well as his experience from international markets, is uniquely suited to lead Elekta through our next phase of profitable growth.”

Laurent Leksell adds: “Tomas Puusepp has done a more than outstanding job as CEO. Under his leadership, Elekta has become a full-service radiation therapy company with the ambition to become the market leader in the next couple of years. I am pleased that Tomas has decided to continue working for Elekta as a full-time member of the Board of Directors.”

Niklas Savander says: “I feel honored. Elekta is a remarkable company: innovative, well-managed and fast-growing. I am excited about the opportunity, knowing what a difference this company makes in the lives of people with cancer.”

Savander will join the firm on January 1 in order to provide ample time to prepare for his new responsibilities, Elekta said.
