The patent application covers Elicera’s antibodies that recognize and bind to IL-13Rα2, a protein often present in large quantities on cancer cells, particularly brain tumors. It also covers their use in cancer treatment, such as CAR T-cell therapies. A Notice of Allowance means the USPTO intends to grant the patent once the remaining formalities are completed. Once granted, the patent would give Elicera exclusive US rights to develop and sell treatments based on these antibodies.

The US decision follows a Notice of Allowance for a corresponding patent in Japan, announced in March 2026. ELC-401 is being developed for glioblastoma, the most aggressive primary brain tumor, with a median survival of about 15 months.

Jamal El-Mosleh, CEO of Elicera at the time of the announcement, said: “Securing patent protection for our anti-IL-13Ra2 antibodies, used in CAR T-cell treatments, is commercially very significant because the United States is the world’s largest and most valuable market for advanced cell and gene therapies.”
