Health technology is now the largest and most significant high-tech segment in Finnish industry, representing 47 percent of Finland’s total high-tech product exports, according to FiHTA Healthtech Finland, an organization representing companies in the sector. The value of Finnish health technology product exports reached a new record of EUR 1.66 billion in 2013. Exports in the sector have roughly quadrupled over the past 20 years.
There currently are about 400 Finnish companies operating in the health technology sector. Many of the world’s largest medical technology companies have acquired Finnish companies and expanded their operations in Finland. Finnish health technology companies are also increasingly involved in global outsourcing, design and the manufacturing of complex systems. They are able to take responsibility for testing, quality assurance and regulatory approval procedures and can deliver turn-key solutions to international customers.
