Iconovo and Lonza sign collaboration agreement
The agreement, building on a letter of intent announced earlier this year, is intended to establish a long-term partnership in spray-dried formulations, a technology considered important for the development of inhalable drug formulations for biologics, vaccines, and other large molecules.
“The parties have now signed a strategic collaboration agreement that defines the conditions and areas in which they will offer each other prioritized access to services and supply,” says Anders Månsson, CEO of Iconovo. “The signed agreement will serve as an umbrella agreement for project-specific collaborations, which are expected to be established in the near future.”
Jan Vertommen, Vice President Commercial Development, Advanced Synthesis at Lonza, said the company sees inhalable biologics as a high-potential area where its spray-drying technologies and expertise can create significant value.
Two of Iconovo’s inhaler platforms, ICOres and ICOpre, are being developed as interchangeable generic drug products. The company’s other platforms, ICOcap, ICOone, and ICOone Nasal, are mainly intended for new and innovative drug formulations, as well as reformulation of existing drugs into inhalation-based treatments.
The collaboration with Lonza is linked to the reformulated substance in Iconovo’s obesity project and is part of both companies’ ambition to build a more strategic and long-term partnership in this field.
