Initiator Pharma appoints new Chief Operating Officer
Danish biotech Initiator Pharma has appointed Annette Säfholm, PhD, as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and a member of the company’s management team, strengthening its business development and operational capacity as it approaches topline data from its Phase IIa study of pudafensine in vulvodynia.
In the newly created role, Säfholm will support the CEO on business development, partnering and strategic discussions, as well as core operational activities. The appointment comes as Initiator Pharma advances the ongoing trial and prepares for topline results, expected before the end of 2026.
“Establishing partnerships for pudafensine is one of Initiator Pharma’s top priorities. Annette brings extensive experience in business development, operations and women’s health, and will play a significant role in advancing our partnering discussions and strengthening execution as we approach a major clinical milestone,” says Claus Elsborg Olesen, CEO, Initiator Pharma.

She has also held roles at Reccan Diagnostics and Idogen, and co-founded WNT Research. She holds a PhD in medicine from Lund University, a master’s in medical biology from Linköping University, and an executive management qualification from EFL in Lund.
“Pudafensine is a differentiated drug candidate addressing significant medical needs in pain and sexual dysfunction. I look forward to working with Claus and the team to advance our partnering discussions and support the company’s strategic and operational execution,” says Säfholm.
