Karolinska Institute and Stockholm County Council are to establish a common regional biobank during 2014.
SMB will be a central resource for compiling, storing and using common biobank samples as well as providing access to them. The purpose with Stockholms Medicinska Biobank, SMB, is to increase the access of biobank samples for medical research. The new biobank is also to contribute to a better healthcare for patients and a strenghtened clinical research through its function as a hub between healthcare and research. SMB will thus be in close collaboration with the region’s hospitals and health centres.
