Moberg Pharma secures US dosing patent for MOB-015
The US Patent and Trademark Office has granted Moberg Pharma a patent covering an improved dosing regimen for MOB-015, the company’s topical treatment for nail fungus. The US is the first market to approve a patent application on the improved dosing.
The patent covers new dosing regimens for MOB-015. It is based on several sets of clinical results, including the studies behind the drug’s European approval and the company’s most recent Phase III study in North America. Patent protection is expected to last until December 2041. Dosing patent applications are still under review in other markets.
The US is the world’s largest single market for nail fungus treatment, and the Stockholm-based company holds all rights to MOB-015 there. Moberg Pharma plans to run another Phase III study to support a future FDA approval.
“We are very pleased that the first patent covering improved dosing of MOB-015 has now been granted in the US. The patent builds on the extensive clinical documentation generated with MOB-015 and is an important addition to our patent portfolio. Strengthened patent protection for MOB-015 in the US is a key part of creating long-term value from the asset,” says Anna Ljung, CEO, Moberg Pharma.
For now, Moberg Pharma is focusing on markets where MOB-015 is already approved or where commercial partnerships are in place. The drug is approved in fourteen countries and is the market leader in Sweden and Norway, where it is sold as Terclara. Preparations are underway for a broader international rollout, including launches under the Lamisil brand with Karo Healthcare.
