Novartis ends BrainTransporter deal with BioArctic
Novartis has decided to terminate its option, collaboration, and license agreement with BioArctic, signed in August 2025 to explore a potential new treatment combining BioArctic’s BrainTransporter technology with an undisclosed Novartis antibody.
The termination follows Novartis’ decision to discontinue the program, a decision that is unrelated to the BrainTransporter technology.
The Stockholm-based company keeps the full upfront payment of USD 30 million and, as a result of the termination, will recognize the remaining portion as revenue in 2026.
BrainTransporter uses the transferrin receptor (TfR) to help transport drugs into the brain. The technology can be applied across a range of therapeutic areas to deliver biologics and other treatment modalities. To date, BioArctic has signed five partnership agreements involving the technology.
