Swedish radiotherapy planning software specialists RaySearch Laboratories AB teams up with German radiosurgery expert.

RaySearch Laboratories AB and Brainlab AG have agreed to collaborate in the field of treatment planning for radiation therapy and dose optimization. The goal is to automate crucial steps in the treatment process. According to Raysearch, efforts will be focused on specific software enhancements to extend the capabilities of available technologies and increase the choices available in the treatment of cancers outside the brain.

Privately held since its formation in Munich, Germany in 1989, Brainlab has more than 5,000 systems installed in about 80 countries. The company develops, manufactures and markets software-driven medical technology, enabling access to improved, more efficient, less-invasive patient treatments. The core products revolve around less-invasive image guided surgery technology, more accurate and effective radiation therapy.

“Brainlab is a world-leading supplier of equipment for Neurosurgery and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy and I believe that there are many synergies between our two companies. This is a great foundation for a long-standing partnership and we look forward to collaborating with Brainlab to provide innovative software that allows for more effective delivery of radiation therapy,” says Johan Löf, President and CEO of RaySearch Laboratories AB, in a press release.

Development will start immediately and integrated products are expected be launched at the end of 2013.
