The Lund-based company expects to enroll 150 participants, randomized 1:1:1 to CAM2056 10 mg, CAM2056 20 mg, or placebo, given every four weeks after an initial titration period. The primary goal is to show significantly greater weight loss with CAM2056 20 mg than with placebo after 36 weeks of treatment. Secondary endpoints include the share of participants reaching at least 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% weight loss, as well as changes in blood sugar control, waist circumference, blood pressure, and blood lipids. Results are expected in the first half of 2028.

“Our Phase Ib study showed potential for faster and greater reductions in body weight and blood sugar with the CAM2056 monthly depot compared with weekly semaglutide injections, with a similar safety and tolerability profile. In the Phase IIb study, we are evaluating higher doses over a longer treatment period, with the aim of achieving further weight loss combined with convenient monthly dosing,” says Fredrik Tiberg, President and CEO, Camurus.

CAM2056 is a long-acting subcutaneous depot of the GLP-1 receptor agonist semaglutide, based on Camurus’ FluidCrystal technology. In a Phase Ib study in 80 participants, weight loss at day 85 was 9.3% with CAM2056 10 mg, compared with 5.2% with weekly semaglutide injections. After three months, CAM2056 had achieved weight loss equal to that seen after five months of weekly semaglutide. Its safety and tolerability were comparable to weekly semaglutide, despite faster dose escalation.
