The trial marks the first clinical assessment of an anti-Clever-1 antibody combined with chemotherapy (doxorubicin) in solid tumours. It is sponsored by MEDSIR and conducted across six Spanish hospitals, led by Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona (NCT07460986). Phase 1b will assess safety and tolerability of the combination, while Phase 2 will evaluate efficacy against doxorubicin alone.

Bexmarilimab targets Clever-1, a receptor found on immunosuppressive macrophages; many soft-tissue sarcomas express high levels of Clever-1, supporting the rationale for the combination in a cancer type that has seen little therapeutic progress in decades.
