The oral presentation, “Gut microbiome predicts risk of aggressive disease course in ulcerative colitis: Development and validation of a risk classifier,” is delivered by Professor Lena Öhman of the University of Gothenburg. It covers how the test was developed, validated and evaluated in a collaborative project with Akershus University Hospital and the University of Gothenburg, partly funded by the Research Council of Norway.

Ulcerative colitis affects up to 1% of the population in Western countries, and its course varies widely: some patients have mild disease while others need early treatment escalation. The test identifies a microbiome profile linked to an aggressive course, intended to guide treatment decisions and follow-up over the first 12 months after diagnosis.

It is the first time the company’s research has been selected for an oral presentation at UEG Week.

“The results strengthen our confidence in the potential of microbiome-based diagnostics to support earlier patient stratification in ulcerative colitis,” says Ronny Hermansen, CEO of Genetic Analysis.
