Finnish diabetes technology and solution company Mendor has signed a contract with the Finnish City of Tampere to provide Mendor ONE mobile health diabetes management solutions for people with type 1 diabetes at the Tampere diabetes outpatient clinic.

Mendor ONE carries a cellular enabled blood glucose meter, cloud software to be used at the clinic and a smartphone application for people with diabetes. Direct home delivery of all glucose monitoring consumables also is included.

“Mendor ONE enables real-time and remote monitoring on self-measured blood glucose without a need to separately record or share the values,” says Susanna Aspholm, head of the diabetes outpatient clinic. “The service helps people with diabetes to maintain glycemic control and motivates self-care while allowing us to focus on patients needing our support,” clinic endocrinologist Päivi Hannula adds.

Mika Vuori, planning manager for the City of Tampere, expects Mendor ONE to generate savings by reducing the need for primary care physician visits. A health economic study will be conducted together with Aalto University HEMA Institute to analyze the expected outcomes. Patient recruitment will start during the first quarter of this year.
