NordicRWE was founded in Oslo in 2022 to help researchers and drug developers unlock the value of Nordic health data. As part of the Oslo Cancer Cluster ecosystem, the company says a coordinated Nordic approach is increasingly necessary: modern precision oncology divides patients into small molecular subgroups that are often too thin to study using data from a single country, but the Nordic countries together offer some of the world’s most complete and comparable health registries.

The team behind NordicRWE believe the possibilities of Real-World Evidence are obvious, but access to and sharing data between the Nordic countries are hurdles that need to be overcome.

With a presence now in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, NordicRWE says it can support studies spanning the region and strengthen collaboration between healthcare systems, academia and industry. The company has published research showing how registry data can serve as external control arms in clinical trials – an approach it says can speed up evidence generation, support earlier patient access to new cancer treatments, and allow treatment effects to be tracked in real-world settings after approval.

Medical Director Steinar Thoresen said: “We want to make it more attractive to do studies on health data in our entire region.”

He added that Nordic health data are valuable precisely because of how complete and similar they are across borders – a quality that matters most, he said, in cancer, where precision medicine creates patient populations too small to study from one country’s data alone.
