What are you most looking forward to working with in your new role?

“I’m genuinely excited to take on this role in an organization that is already performing at a very high level. Working at the intersection of research, funding, and policy is both a privilege and a responsibility. I am particularly motivated by the opportunity to support research that addresses major societal challenges. This is where new knowledge can make a real difference.”

I am particularly motivated by the opportunity to support research that addresses major societal challenges.

“I also look forward to working closely with highly competent colleagues across the Nordic countries, and with leading researchers and institutions, to further strengthen Nordic collaboration.”

What previous experiences do you believe you can contribute in your new role?

“While I still have much to learn about the specifics of Nordic research funding and policy, I bring experience from working with research and innovation policy in an international and Nordic context.”

“I have worked at the interface between policy, research environments, and stakeholders, and I hope to build on this to strengthen NordForsk’s role as a platform for Nordic cooperation. This includes contributing to stronger alignment between research, innovation, and education, and helping ensure that Nordic collaboration remains both relevant and impactful.”

What do you believe are the most important issues when it comes to strengthening and developing the Nordic region and Nordic cooperation in general?

“The Nordic region is already characterized by a high level of trust, strong institutions, and world-class research environments. The key challenge, and perhaps opportunity, is to leverage this even more strategically.”

And third, positioning the Nordic region more strongly internationally – within Europe and globally. NordForsk has an important role to play in all three areas.

“Going forward, I see three important priorities. First, strengthening collaboration around major societal challenges where Nordic added value is clear. Second, ensuring that we make the most of our combined research capacity through better coordination and help to build critical mass and expertise at the Nordic level in important disciplines and research areas. And third, positioning the Nordic region more strongly internationally – within Europe and globally. NordForsk has an important role to play in all three areas.”

What do you believe are the most important issues when it comes to strengthening and developing the Nordic life science industry? And the Nordic research climate?

“I see this very much as an interconnected ecosystem rather than a set of separate issues. Maintaining the high quality of Nordic research is fundamental. At the same time, we need to strengthen the links between research and application – particularly within life science and the green transition.”

It is about creating the right conditions for knowledge to move from excellent research to societal impact.

“This includes supporting translational research, improving collaboration across sectors, and ensuring that our research infrastructures are well connected and accessible across the Nordic region.”

“Overall, it is about creating the right conditions for knowledge to move from excellent research to societal impact.”
