The Swedish-American Life Science Summit (SALSS) 2021 is on and will take place in Stockholm, Sweden, on October 20-22.

The focus on the event will be cell and gene therapy and a crucial discussion on the worldwide pandemic. It will also include exciting company presentations, a rising star exhibit, the announcement of the SALSS Rising Star Award 2021, and much more.

Lessons learned from Covid-19

The event will include a crucial symposium and discussion on lessons learned from Covid-19 with renowned international experts, including Dr. William A. Haseltine, President, Access International (via video), Dr. Mathias Uhlén, Professor, Human Microbiology, KTH, Multiple biotech entrepreneur, Mr. Richard Bergström, Vaccine coordinator, Government offices of Sweden, Dr. Yuval Binur, Managing Partner, Orchestra Medical Ventures, Dr. Anders Tegnell, State Epidemiologist of Sweden, and Dr. Florence Haseltine, Professor, Texas University.

Dr. Mikael Dolsten, President, Worldwide Research & Development, Pfizer, will (via video) speak about the “8 months race for a vaccine” and the importance of collaboration to succeed. In addition, Dr. Daniel Kraft, Chair, Singularity University, will speak about how Covid-19 transformed the future of medicine.

What it takes

SALSS 2021 will also include inspiring speeches and discussions about what it takes for success in the life science industry, providing both a global and a Nordic/Swedish perspective.

Cell and Gene therapy

Another theme of the event this year will be Cell and Gene therapy, and among other topics, the new Swedish Gene Therapy Center will be highlighted. Cell and gene therapy will revolutionize several diseases in the future, not only cancer, which is where we have currently seen the most progress. In order to reach the full potential of this therapy, however, it is essential that the legal framework follows the development and does not slow it down, and also that the costs decrease.

There will also be discussions on the topics: Collaboration: The Way Forward, Patient Entrepreneurship and All Time High – Life Science IPO.

Business woman Barbro Ehnbom initiated the first SALSS meeting in Stockholm in 2005, and down the years the event has highlighted important progress and challenges within the life science industry. On the agenda are the most interesting topics and the most exciting people. This is mixed with Barbro’s sense of creating relaxing settings, where conversations can grow and new contacts can be made.
