AQ Biotech will utilize the funding to launch its operations in Hong Kong and Mainland China, strengthen its team through specific recruitments, and establish world-class biomarker discovery capabilities both in Turku and Hong Kong. Additionally, the company’s projects have received local funding from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST) and from the Jiangsu Province R&D to validate the phage-biosensor method with various lethal diseases, like Tuberculosis and Prostate cancer.

This whole expansion is fueled by China’s rapidly growing biotech, pharma, and diagnostics markets, where AQ Biotech already enjoys excellent partnership with the leading hospitals and their clinicians, which are vital when moving towards larger A Round in Hong Kong.

Business Finland’s Senior Advisor Tuomas Planman sees AQ Biotech’s potential as an excellent example of the global appeal for radical Finnish biotech innovation and expertise: “AQ Biotech is developing and commercializing an innovative patented technology, with several potential high impact use cases on international markets. The company has a skilled team in Finland and is working with research partners in Finland and abroad. The company is creating jobs and promoting growth of expertise in Finland, with the potential for significant value creation mitigating various diseases and creating exports from Finland. Business Finland is happy to support AQ Biotech with R&D funding, alongside private investors.

Focus on Global Markets through China and basis for Series A Round

This funding allows us to replicate our Turku laboratory and expertise in Hong Kong, as well as in Chengdu and Nanjing with our JV partners. Together, we are positioned to create a launchpad for China’s growing healthtech sector and making an important milestone ahead of our upcoming A round and growth:

“It is already visible how China is repeating the same trajectory in Biotech (Pharma and Diagnostics) that it has achieved in the telco, automotive and in greentech industries, and we want to be a key accelerating force of this ongoing transition, which ultimately will benefit the global market and patients all over the world,” says Timo Teimonen, CEO & Co-Founder, AQ Biotech Ltd.
