VINNOVA and Veckans Affärer have awarded Jennie Ekbeck, CEO at Umeå Biotech Incubator, with the prestigious titel Innovations angel of 2015.
She is described as an angel who believes in asking questions and in peoples abilities, and who relentlessly works on improving the business climate for life science innovations and companies.
Under Ekbeck’s development-friendly eye UBI has scrutinized and refined how they most effectively work with and promote business and product development. UBI’s processes are partly based on her own experiences from life science start-up businesses, in combination with what UBI has learnt from picking the brains of potential future key partners, regulatory expertise and investors.
“I believe in people and in helping them grow, by recognizing their talents and focus on them and find ways to work round what that person is not so good at. Business concepts and ideas can fail, but the people are still there, stronger and with more experiences,” says Ekbeck. “At UBI we work with people who are very competent and experienced within their field, but when they come to us they are novices… We match them with people who are as experienced as them, in drug- or product development, an equal partner with complementary know-how.”
