Tomas Lorant, transplantation surgeon at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala University Hospital, and researcher at Uppsala University, has received the Swedish Surgical Society’s research prize of 2014.

He is given the award for his work in translational research within the area of transplantation. Lorant has conducted clinical studies in immunological risk assesment of kidney transplanted patients and post operative pain relief among donors. He has also been involved in studies focused on regulatory T cells and the possibility to establish the cell therapy in healthcare with the ambition to induce tolerance among transplanted patients.

The Swedish Surgical Society (SKF) organizes surgeons working in Sweden or having a connection to Swedish surgery. It is a professional organization within the Swedish Society of Medicine and the Swedish Medical Association.
