AstraZeneca part of new Swedish collaboration on green technology
The Swedish government is investing SEK 95 million in a public-private partnership to create an innovation platform that will reduce Sweden’s climate emissions and strengthen competitiveness. Partners in the collaboration are the government, AstraZeneca, Scania and RISE.
The focus is on water and resource use as well as carbon footprint within Scope 3.
“We want to attract innovative companies around the world with groundbreaking solutions in new green technology, and offer them a platform in Sweden where they have access to expertise, infrastructure and a sharing culture within Swedish industry,” says Per Alfredsson, CEO of AstraZeneca AB.
Based in Södertälje
The platform will be based in Södertälje, and have global reach, a national center for innovation in sustainability technologies. The initiative will also have operations in Gothenburg.
Based on BioVentureHub
The initiative is based on an already established concept, AstraZeneca’s innovation hub BioVentureHub, which has existed for ten years and created hundreds of new highly qualified jobs in Sweden.
The government will contribute SEK 15 million in 2026 and then SEK 20 million per year until 2030 – a total of SEK 95 million. The initiative is co-financed with the business community.
